Racism in the Porn Industry

Racism in the Porn Industry

Racism in the

Porn Industry

The information that I found while doing research for this post made me wildly uncomfortable. As somebody who loves talking about sexuality, the freedom and liberation of the human form, and how to heal from body-shame of various kinds, I felt as though it was incredibly important that I talk about this issue:

Racism in the Porn Industry.

There is no hiding the fact that the porn industry gets away with promoting violence, abuse, and racism. Today, we aren’t glorifying the expression of humans having sex and creating art with it. Instead, we are calling out the way this industry has fetishized and demeaned black sex performers.

There is no hiding the fact that the porn industry gets away with promoting violence, abuse, and racism. Today, we aren’t glorifying the expression of humans having sex and creating art with it. Instead, we are calling out the way this industry has fetishized and demeaned black sex performers.

“Interracial” Porn Isn’t Really Interracial

“Interracial” Porn Isn’t Really Interracial

One of the highest viewed categories through out several, if not all, porn sites is “BBC” and “interracial”. The word interracial by meaning is the conjoining of two individuals of different races, in this instance, to have sex. However, when you look at porn and click on the category you will find nothing but black men having sex with white women. This gives us a viewpoint that the industry is fetishizing the exploitation of black men, and more specifically, their penises. As well as enabling the stereotypical view that black men are more dominating, violent, and “scary” which can be seen by the titles that they give their videos. This further imprints the idea that black men have this demeanor. With this as well, white women are advised to work in the industry for several years before engaging in their first “interracial” movie, which comes with a pay enhancement higher than their standard rate. However, some female performers feel resistance towards it due to the atrocious slut-shaming and racist belief that women are “ruined” after having sex with a black man.

When interracial porn is clicked on, we should see exactly that: a great mixture of different races in the porn industry coming together to have sex. That’s what interracial sex really is! This will support performers that are non-white by getting them approved for more castings, which will benefit them financially, emotionally, and mentally. Expanding interracial porn in this way will also give us a more realistic and equal idea of what interracial sex actually looks like.

The industry should also not cast black performers simply because the color of their skin appeasing some form of fantasy or kink. Instead, they should higher black performers because of their sexual performance, passion for the job, and liveliness on the camera. They should hire them and promote them because they are good at their profession, just like you would with any other career.

While there are mainstream porn sites that hire the majority of their performers as black beings, they are doing so to, once again, fetishize black men. You can see this quite openly in websites such as blacked . com and dogfart . com. If you look at their castings, there is a plethora of black men having sex with white, white passing women and have very, very little black female performers to join in the art of having sex as their profession. Not to mention, two heterosexual black performers doing a scene together is not common in the industry or on these websites as well. This plainly tells the audience that the industry has no concern over the fact they the content they produce enables racism. It categorizes the idea in the consumer’s

mind that a black person’s sexual presence is to be objectified and overtly taboo. Not only are black female performers rarely casted for black-based porn sites, they also have a harder time getting hired on other porn platforms too. On top of that, they are paid significantly less than their white colleagues, even for doing more advanced scenes such as anal, 3somes, and creampies. Their bodies and sexual presence isn’t viewed or requested nearly as much as other races, which makes the industry feel as though they should pay them less and cast them less often for roles. If this were to be going on in any other industry it would be a huge no. We shouldn’t permit this behavior in the porn industry either.

Along with black female performers not getting casted often on black-based sites, they also deal with other forms of oppression in the industry. It’s also very important to pay attention to the language being used to promote these videos. The adjectives being used within the industry are derogatory towards the color of their skin and the stereotypical perceptions that come with it. This will be found in several areas through out the distribution of porn such as their titles and sequels, the sets they are working on, the dialogue between performers, and producers playing a role in enhancing the race-play between them. Let’s begin with the titles. You may find words such as “ebony”, “black b****”, or “ghetto teen” when a black female performer is in the video. For men, “thug”, “BBC”, or “the n-word” to describe either the male himself/themselves or, more specifically, their penis’. Once again, the way in which industries of all kinds produce and advertise their product leaves an impression on how their consumers receive this information.

There are also sequels that have been made that are titled “Black Facials Matter” and “Black Meat White Feet” to advertise the fact that a series of black performers have been casted. Do take note that performers don’t often know the ways in which the videos are going to be published, much less the titles that have been used to display them. Several black performers have not only asked producers to change the names on several movies (with little to no success), but they have also requested to gain fair treatment and over all respect within their profession.

Several producers have even gone as far as asking black performers if their colleague for the day may refer to them as “the n-word” while they are rolling. Obviously, the answer was no. This request however illustrates the lack of consideration that the industry has for the emotional well-being of their black performers over the kink concept they will get out of hiring them. Other examples of BTS cast members in the porn industry being entirely belligerent in the way that they inner-act with other black performers is insisting that the colleague uses the n-word regardless, casting them as the “token” black person for orgies, and failing to create a safe and comfortable working environment for them.

Now beyond dialogue, I also ask you to take note on the set up or the space in which the movies are being filmed. You can tell a lot about the mood the movie is trying to portray for you by looking at the background. There are “interracial” videos circling around with the confederate flag hanging very openly in the background, along with other insensitive props to amplify the concept of a black person having sex with a non-black person.

Audience aside, it’s incredibly important that we bring awareness to how this type of behavior and treatment may make a human being, of any race, feel. Nobody wasn’t to be called a racial slur, fetishized as a prop for unconsensual fantasy, or receive less respect from the people around them. Creating a work environment of this poor quality can become very hostile for black performers, leaving them emotionally distraught and possibly even embarrassed.

What You Can Do:

Know that these titles are used repeatedly because they sell. That means that people who consume porn are continuously clicking on this type of material which is giving the porn industry a “yes” to create more. There is nothing wrong with finding black human beings beautiful and arousing and therefore wanting to watch porn with their race in it. That’s not what I am saying. What I am asking you to do, as a conscious porn consumer, is to be very conscientious of the type of porn that you click on. This will help shine a lot of light on the racism that is present within the industry while simultaneously removing the oppression and overt-racism out of black people’s lives.

Also, reaching out to the porn sites that you enjoy and requesting for more black female performers and more realistic “interracial” porn will help as well. Like I said, the porn industry repeats what sells, they repeat what works, much like any other thriving business would. It is up to us, the consumers, to expand our demands and make sure that black beings in the porn industry are being casted fairly – for reasons beyond their race, getting paid an equal amount as their white colleagues, and are not being demeaned or fetishized unconsciously by us. They will listen to our requests because we are their audience, we are their clientele. They want to appease to us.

Mainstream pornography websites to reach out to are blacked, brazzers, evilangel, dogfart, vxn, nympho, and kink dot com. If you have your go-to favorites, message them also!

If we are going to battle racism

we have to also discuss and bring forth the gunk

that is hidden within the sexual realm.

We are dismantling racism on all sides – Sexuality included.
